Alexander Wang takes over Toronto’s Jonathan + Olivia for one day only

This Thursday, Alexander Wang will take over Toronto’s Jonathan + Olivia. Well, not Wang himself, but rather, the slick all-black-everything aesthetic he’s become famous for. For one day only, the Ossington Avenue store will transform into Wang’s world, complete with a sneaker-inspired installation and a huge selection of ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, typically only available through his namesake stores.

“We always try to do things in an unexpected way and to create a lifestyle experience,” says Wang. And fans of the designer’s famed fur hammock (it currently lives in his New York flagship) know exactly what he means. As for said sneaker installation, it’ll take cues from Wang’s latest collection. “Our Spring 2015 collection took sneaker culture as its starting point. I personally wear sneakers pretty much every day, and I loved this idea of emulating different urban tribes that cultishly wear a particular style of sneaker. People get obsessed with sneakers, and sneakers are both easily accessible and a collector’s items at the same time.”

As well as a solid selection of Spring 2015 pieces, Alexander Wang’s new denim collection will also available for preview at the event. “Denim is part of my everyday wardrobe and personal to me. I wanted to create authentic denim that replicates the look of worn-in, aged jeans,” says Wang.

The Alexander Wang Takeover will take place at Jonathan + Olivia (49 Ossington Avenue) on Thursday April 9, 2015 from 11 a.m to 7 p.m. For more information, visit jonathanandolivia.com.
