I love fall and always look forward to this season for embracing the cooler weather by layering with cozy knits. One of my favorite trends this season is going long! Long duster coats, floor sweeping skirts, and long sweaters, this stylish structure is great for elongating the body. For this look, I found a long plaid sweater that I layered over a sweater dress. I opted for a pair of basic boots and a backpack for an easy look.

When there are days filled with chilly wind and rain during summer time, I always want to get into one of my cozy knit tops from wardrobe. Some of them don’t weight as heavy as a giant wool coat, so you don’t feel your movement being awkwardly confined. A knit top can easily go with anything: flared trousers for a casual office style, or a midi skirt for a sophisticated lady look.

The moment I heard the word fall, my mind automatically turned to the usual “Basic B” items: PSL’s, plaid scarves and riding boots. Who doesn’t miss those things all summer long? I know I do. In all honesty, it’s the little details I’ve been looking forward to the most for this autumn. Like toggles, cashmere and leather. This cape coat is one of my favourite outerwear pieces in my collection. I love the wooden toggle clasps, soft feel and modern shape. On a trip to the mountains, where the weather was close to zero, I know this was the coat I wanted to take out of storage. Oh how I’ve missed it.

Kira’s wearing: Coat, J.Crew Collection. Faux leather legging, Anthropologie.

As the weather cools, I’m so thrilled to work my favourite knits back into my wardrobe rotation. This cropped version is perfect for layering with maxis, pencil skirts, and high-waist denim. I love keeping the look neutral and adding interest with texture, like my suede ankle booties that I’ve also been waiting all summer to wear.

Now that the weather is cooling down I am excited to start layering all of my outfits again. I love wearing my cashmere cable knit sweater over a button up blouse. To add a final touch, I like to accessorize with an oversized blanket scarf and a brown fedora.

Finally, the weather has turned cool. This past spring and summer I’ve been waiting for the chance to pull out all things wool. When dreaming of fall and winter my mind drifts to fabrics; the ultimate keep-warm: wool. There are coats, suits, jackets, sweaters, scarves, gloves, hats, slippers, pants and even shoes! You name it, I’m sure it’s been created.

As a fabric, wool really defines the season. It comes in many different options of style and blend. You may be surprised to learn just how many fall/winter wardrobe items have wool blended in. To narrow it down even further, for me, it would have to be: a wool suit. There is something so 1950s about donning a skirt-suit. It evokes power, style, and the wool keeps you extra warm – the perfect combination!

For the past few months I’ve been daydreaming of the MVP of fall layers, coats! From oversized to tailored and everything in between, these fall toppers are the final touch to any cozy fall day. I love simply draping mine over my shoulders or keeping it snug on those chilly days. This wool camel coat from H&M is a perfect example of a layer that makes a statement season.

Best way to ease up to a complete full blown fall outfit is to layer. I am mixing up my own transitional style with this maxi dress and throwing on layers with a jacket and a blanket scarf. Blanket scarf, the one piece I’ve been waiting to wear all summer long. With the word “blanket”, you know that it’s going to be a perfect cozy season. For me, the bigger, the wider, the fluffier, the better. It can be hard to figure out at first, but they are easily versatile once you get the hang of it. It doubles its use especially where I live! It’s a key part of my daily commute and conveniently serve as a blanket when the office AC is blasting.

Ana’s wearing: Scarf, Zara. Flats, Forever 21. Dress, H&M. Jlea Fashion House Boutique, Jacket, RES Denim.
