Trends are awesome but they are even better when you wear them in unexpected ways. I had a piece of silk ribbon leftover from a shoot and used it as a choker to add an extra touch of femininity to a monochromatic look. Easiest DIY ever!

As a teenage girl in the ‘90s, who was inspired by the Spice Girls and Beverly Hills 90210, I was really pleased to hear that the choker is making its’ way back this season. Chokers can come in variety of forms: velvet, metal, leather and more, and I think that it’s a great way to give your look a fashion forward boost. I decided to rock this trend by channelling my inner 90s cool girl. I mixed between two chokers from Urban Outfitters: A cord black tier and a gold chain choker, along with a ripped denim jacket and a neon clutch, that reflect the spirit of this decade, and evoke the vibe of grunge meets rock star style, without losing the comfort level.

Liat’s wearing: Choker, Urban Outfitters. Jacket, Zara. Shirt, French Connection. Bag, Aldo.

Chokers are everywhere, and they seem to do an amazing job at elevating any look. I’ve always kept it low-key and simple by just wearing black leather chokers, but something sparked me to think more creatively. I’ve wrapped everything that was long enough to go around my neck, like ribbons, strings and even thin belts. Here I am actually wearing a thin, beaded belt with tassel-ends around my neck. Ever since I discovered this, I haven’t stopped wearing the belt this way. I love how the tiny sparkles from the beads and the long tassels made a unique statement to my outfits. So, ladies and gents, always be experimental and keep the creative juices flowing in your mind. You’d be surprised what you can come up with.

Teresa’s wearing: Jacket, Joe Fresh. Top, Forever21. Skirt, Zara. Flats, Zara. Choker/belt, Zara.

As someone who doesn’t like wearing plain garments, I gravitate towards patterns, textures and statement pieces. So instead of accessorizing this outfit with a simple black choker necklace, I opted for a jewelled one to make more of a statement. Since this outfit leaned towards a darker palette, I made sure my outfit consisted of different textures (ie. faux leather jacket, satin top and embroidered skirt) to keep things interesting.

Adrienne’s wearing: Top, Zara. Choker, Zara. Skirt, H&M. Jacket, Zara. Sunglasses, EyeBuyDirect. Shoes, Zara.

To say I’ve hopped on the choker necklace bandwagon would be an understatement. I’ve been wearing them non-stop since fall. Sometimes I even wear two. There’s something about them that add a cool confident vibe to any look, and as you can see this is a far cry from its grunge days. Here I needed some visual interest since my outfit was rather minimalist in nature, and of course I decided on a choker to draw the eye up.
Another one of my favourite go-to is to just tie a small black ribbon or suede string (pairs well with a leather jacket) around my neck and call it a day. A bandana also looks pretty cool too! There are definitely a lot of options to try.

Kayla’s wearing: Pants, Le Château. Top, Marshalls. Bag, Aritzia. Choker, Joe Fresh. Shoes, Nine West.
