Fall 2013 is on the agenda, but here at Paris Fashion Week, spring is in the air. It’s been deliciously sunny over the past few days with fashion warriors shedding winter for bright spring outfits. If Carine Roitfeld can do head-to-toe cream and caramel, bare legs and open-toe shoes (as seen at Hôtel de Crillon), then the rest of us can too. Black, however, is still a dominant hue on the catwalk and the sidewalk, but every now and again a flash of brightness taps you on the shoulder and says, “regarde-moi.”

Here are Paris Fashion Week’s top four colour moments for Fall 2013.

1. Saint Laurent
Grunge is back and somehow fresh again. The downtown princess attire consisted of thigh-high hems and random layers for that I-just-got-out-of-bed appearance. What stood out though were the red or blue plaid shirts, thrown over sparkly party dresses for the ultimate in mismatched magic.

2. Giambattista Valli
Are we moving away from colour blocking? Monochromatic poppy red will turn all heads, especially in Valla’s front-pleated slacks tapered at the ankle, provocative petal skirts and long, oversized coats with detachable panels.

3. John Galliano
The models marched like solemn shadows in black, as well as like-minded shades of royal purple, forest green and, well, more black. The one ray of light was then certainly the charged cobalt blue with magenta ombré detailing in fitted jacket and ringing bell sleeves.

4. Stella McCartney
Okay, we get it. Pinstripes. We saw them in varying widths, and cut into atypical garments like a coatdress, coat-coats, tunics, and was that peplum? But it was the blanket frocks in flowing floor-length violet where Stella truly earned her stripes.
