As the eye of fashion’s Fall 2014 storm hits London, here’s a look back at the top moments, trends and collections of New York Fashion Week.

Top trend
Unconventional colours

In the age of seasonless dressing, we’ve evolved way past a “pastels for spring” mentality. New York’s Fall 2014 shows pushed the palette forward yet again by showing vibrant magenta fur (Altuzarra and 3.1 Phillip Lim), lavender on double-breasted coats (Ralph Lauren and Nonoo), glittery tangerine on a shoulderless parka (Rodarte) and slouchy metallic stitched denim trousers at Ostwald Helgason. Alexander Wang pushed the colour game further yet, with heat-activated coats that transformed from black to vibrant neon hues.

Top performance
Thom Browne

As fashion week moves to become more and more pared back, Thom Browne proved that true theatrics are alive and well with his latest off-the-wall presentation which took place in a makeshift church. The irony was not lost on the editors who sat in rows of runway-lined pews. After all, it’s our job to sell fashion as religion season after season.

Top model
Kendall Jenner

Marc Jacobs pulled a fast one yet again, casting a virtually unrecognizable Kendall Jenner to walk his Fall 2014 show masked underneath monochrome neutral makeup.

Top accessory
Tie: 3.1 Phillip Lim and Edun

A tote that says “Amaze” speaks to me for reasons which are fairly clear if you follow me on Twitter. 3.1 Phillip Lim’s poke at the millennial short form is sure to make it to the top of must-have lists everywhere. And thanks to Edun designer Danielle Sherman, wild, furry alpaca backpacks are now a truly covetable thing.

Top trek
Tie: Ralph Lauren and Alexander Wang

Looking like a wet dog when you enter a fashion show is the ultimate in fierce, right? Well, it better be, after getting to yesterday’s Ralph Lauren show involved stomping through ankle-high snow, being pelted with hail and puddle jumping. It was only just slightly more insane than the two-hour travel time back and forth to Alexander Wang’s Brooklyn Navy Yard show on Saturday night.

Top celeb spotting
Lupita Nyong’o at Calvin Klein

While the rest of us plebes recovered from the elements, fashion’s current fixation took her front row seat between Anna Wintour and Naomi Watts looking impossibly fresh in a nubby pastel pink number at yesterday’s Calvin Klein show. Her brand of natural beauty is unparalleled.

Top show
Altuzarra

There were so many fantastic shows this season, but Joseph Altuzarra proved himself ahead of the pack by showing that sophistication doesn’t mean void of vibrancy with a series of magenta trimmed strapless dresses, neon fur and cobalt lined wrap coats.
