New York Fashion Week Spring 2015: 3 standout trends from yesterday’s shows

Tuesday’s NYFW lesson focused on the A, B, Cs of spring style. We’re not talking letterman jackets, though they’ve been scoring huge points off the runway along with their tricked-out sneaker sidekicks. From Tory Burch to Narciso Rodriguez, the dizzying day turned out to be A (B, C) ok. Here’s your cup of alphabet soup, fashion week style.
A is for Accessories: From Tory Burch’s crackled desert boots, paint-dipped jewellery and colour-blocked bags to J. Crew’s iridescent clutches and woven knot necklaces, the extras on display were anything but after-thoughts. Spring’s finishing touches have the star power to elevate an everyday look to out-of-this world.
B is for Bold Statements: First came Apple’s big announcement (007 capabilities + a Jetson-like aesthetic = Apple Watch) then came Marc Jacobs’ 80s-inspired collection with its cool slogan tees (“New World System”). The only question is which one will you wear first?
C is for Colour: Narciso Rodriguez’s runway show proved that black and white are still living in perfect harmony, but right in the middle of his stellar line-up, there it was–a soft pink silk dress (look #20 for all you fashionphiles). But Rodriguez wasn’t the only colour crusader of the day–Marc Jacobs’ showed a trio of highly saturated hues (Blue! Pink! Yellow!) at Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Diesel Black Gold fired things up with a handful of sexy crimson looks. Speaking of sexy, Britney Spears unveiled her new intimates collection at the New York Public Library–nothing says come-hither like a library card. But forget 50 Shades of Grey; Spears’ unmentionables took a girly girl approach with powder pink styles trimmed with noir lace. It’s Britney, bitch, but girlfriend’s showing off her softer side this time around.
