London Fashion Week Spring 2015: The 4 most Instagrammable moments so far
As the long-glorified launchpad of such design greats as Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen, London Fashion Week has become synonymous with all things bright, shiny and hella exciting. As the Spring 2015 shows shape up here in the Brit capital (and there is indeed lots of bright and shine), it’s pretty clear that things are just as budding as ever. And since it’s not fashion week unless you’ve captured each and every single piece of newness on your iPhone, here are five of the most exciting, Instagram-worthy (follow us @FashionCanada!) moments so far:
1. Mary Katrantzou’s brave new world
What better way to say goodbye to the prints that defined her rise to fame than with a runway of molten lava? Mary Katrantzou’s game-changing Spring 2015 collection saw models in caviar bejewelled lace and leggy sheer dresses walking a hot black trail of otherworldly rubber. Shimmering panels represented the earth’s shifting plates, which is seriously mind-bending to say the least.
2. Sophia Webster’s jungle rave
Under a bridge, through a tunnel, in a graffitied cavern (and at 11 a.m., mind you!), Sophia Webster transported us to the day-glo world of jungle raving for spring. Models with pastel dreaded wigs, light up grills and furry-worthy knit bikinis wore the designer’s latest collection of pop art shoes, this time accented with bananas, tropical leaves and her now-signature flamingos. But what is a jungle rave, you ask? An actual thing, apparently.
3. Hunter Originals, the Wes Anderson edition
If we’d been wearing Alasdair Willis’s second collection for rain boot brand Hunter Originals last spring, it wouldn’t have been half bad. Shades of Moonrise Kingdom permeated the collection (muted olive meets French’s mustard) of naval-inspired jackets, knee-length shorts, colour-blocked anoraks and, of course, duck shoes.
4. Jonathan Saunders’ night at the museum
The British Museum after hours was a perfect setting for Jonathan Saunders’ stellar spring show, which artfully straddled the season’s developing sense of heavy lightness. Saunders combined tomboy cropped leather bombers with such frothy accents as three dimensional flower buds and leaf-embroidery, resounding in one intriguing visual mix.
