Colour is king at Paris Fashion Week: The 4 bold hues we spotted on the first day of Spring 2015 shows

It’s no secret that black is fashion’s fallback shade. Instantly slimming and eternally chic, Paris’ front row remains filled with fail-safe dark outfits (despite the sunny forecast, editors are in head-to-toe leather looks). Even baby North West was spotted bouncing on mom Kim’s lap in Balenciaga‘s front row with a tiny black Yeezus tee and leather circle skirt. Designers, however, all seem to be spinning their colour wheels for spring, determined to add a shock of vibrant, tropical Skittles-inspired colour to the spectrum. Here are our top fresh fruit-flavoured picks from the shows so far:

Banana berry (yellow): Saffron foliage on Lanvin‘s lightweight dresses, buttercup pants at Roland Mouret, bold egg yolk bands on Carven‘s coats and sun-drenched sunflower linings on Nina Ricci‘s skirts means that the yellow theme we’ve been watching shows no sign of fading.

Kiwi lime (green): Reminiscent of the back of the classic Stan Smith sneaker on the feet of every street style star, this grassy green has turned up on bodycon dresses at Roland Mouret, and even a banana emblazoned sweater at Sonia by Sonia Rykiel.

Mango tangelo (orange): Barbara Bui’s juicy jersey dresses in abbreviated cuts and Nina Ricci’s swaths of citrus on swingy spliced skirts are alternative ways to fuel up on vitamin C come springtime.

Pineapple passion fruit (blue): Touches of turquoise, a colour we haven’t seen in quite some time, have surfaced in unexpected ways. Could thick strapped shoes at Nina Ricci, sophisticated, metallic-flecked stripes at Dries van Noten and block-heeled gladiators at Pierre Hardy signal a switch from the cobalt craze?
