Great news, kids! The sun’s been out for two days straight, temperatures are sitting above freezing and there’s a steady melt occurring, ridding us of any evidence that the last five months brought us the worst winter ever. So we’re calling it: Spring is here! But if you’re still feeling cautiously optimistic about the spring transition, let our newest batch of street style photos convince you. Photographer Jenna Marie Wakani was out and about in Toronto’s Kensington Market this weekend and caught up with some of the city’s best dressed shoppers. True to spring transition dressing, layers were key—but unlike the blizzard-proof wears we saw during fashion week, coats were left open, scarves were worn for style rather than protection and flashes of bare skin were abound.

Carry-all bags were a major statement this weekend. From patterned totes stuffed with kale (hey, it is the trendiest produce item!) to cross-body purses with chain detailing, these street style photos prove that function can still be fashionable. Colour and texture mixing is also key to tackling spring transition style with ease: there’s nothing better than a lightweight, printed scarf or coat in any shade other than black to complement a sunny day. And while we’re confident that this lovely weather is sticking around, may we suggest taking a post-lunch walk outside once you’re done browsing our full gallery of street style photos?
