What to watch, who to read and where to lay your head this month.
Sexier: dressing up or undressing? Two major tomes from Taschen enliven the debate. 20th Century Fashion: 100 Years of Apparel Ads (next slide, $50) is a retrospective through the eyes of graphic-design historian and ad collector Jim Heimann. We’re falling all over again for iconic pitchwomen such as Catherine Deneuve, for Chanel No. 5, and Kate Moss for Calvin. Incidentally, Deneuve also graces Sumo (shown, $170), the titanic Helmut Newton tribute re-released for its 10-year anniversary. Through the heavyweight photographer’s bold lens, subjects often appear only in their glory. City-slick, daring, vulnerable: Newton’s nudes haven’t aged a day.—Sarah Nicole Prickett
