The Social Network
Starring: Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg.
Long before your Facebook habit ate up your life, our century’s greatest time-sucking device was merely an idea in the heads of the people depicted in this fact-based comedy-drama. Though the premise would seem to involve countless scenes of people tapping on keyboards, the involvement of Justin Timberlake and director David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac) ensures that there’ll be something worth watching.

Tamara Drewe (pictured)
Starring: Gemma Arterton, Dominic Cooper and Bill Camp.
British belle Gemma Arterton lays on the charm in the title role as a celebrity newspaper writer who returns to the sleepy English village where she grew up. Though the film’s mood is mostly breezy, it has a few darker undercurrents and a surprisingly tony pedigree—it’s loosely inspired by Thomas Hardy’s Far From the Madding Crowd.

The American
Starring: George Clooney and Thekla Reuten.
A sometime resident of Italy, George Clooney didn’t have to stray far from his luxury villa to make this moody thriller, directed by legendary rock photographer turned filmmaker Anton Corbijn. Clooney plays an assassin enlisted for one last job—and we all know how well those tend to turn out.

Hereafter
Starring: Matt Damon and Cécile de France.
The second teaming of director Clint Eastwood and his Invictus star Matt Damon is a supernaturally themed drama that centres on a factory worker who can communicate with the dead. The possibility of Eastwood going all M. Night Shyamalan is a little worrisome, but we’re excited to see the Hollywood debut of Cécile de France, a Belgian blonde who’s become one of French cinema’s biggest stars.
