The debut novel from playwright and Globe & Mail advice columnist, Claudia Dey, centres on nine-year-old Eugenia Ledoux (a.k.a. Stunt), a synesthetic whose beloved father disappears and her mother leaves soon after. Eugenia and her sister, Immaculata, grow up suddenly, literally, and sell their Parkdale house to the family next door. Immaculata takes up with runny-nosed and enchanting onion eater and Stunt sets out to find her father by way of a tightrope walker she’s only read about. Her search takes her from Parkdale to Ward’s Island to Scarborough and along the way, Dey’s sensual, surreal prose imbues an ordinary city with magic.—Jennifer Campbell
