Gone are the days of bargain bins chock full of Wranglers and teeny-weeny Budweiser tees—Calgary has finally bucked up and traded in its chaps for couture. Finding chic, jaw-dropping fashion is far from a scavenger hunt. Plus, local boutiques are keen to showcase homegrown talent. As I was strolling down Calgary’s trendy 17th Avenue, a pair of pumps stopped me in my tracks. A deliciously edgy pair of four-inch lizard-print John Fluevogs was perched in Gravity Pope’s window. Before I knew it, we were engaged in a passionate staring contest. I had to pounce; I had been struck by Cupid.
