About Magali
Born and raised in Montreal, Magali is currently finishing her Masters degree in film studies and working at a record label company. She recently launched her small clothing line, Finneganbell. Vegetarian and eco-friendly, Magali's addicted to fashion designers, architecture, rock and roll and Gene Kelly movies.
Who is your style icon and why?
Vivienne Westwood. Her designs are a tribute to modern women and everything we dare to be. I love that her punk background is not only to die for but it inspires her collections even today.
What's your favourite item in your closet?
A pair of dark red DKNY open-toe patent pump I got on sale at the Woodbury outlets couple of years ago. I refuse to believe they might go out of style, ever!
What was your favourite childhood outfit?
A shirt with turquoise hieroglyphics all over, paired with turquoise leggings. I was very much into hieroglyphics at one point, drawing them from the dictionary and all. That was the first outfit that made me feel proud of who I was— a fashionable geek—at that moment!
What's your worst outfit ever?
Back in high school, hip hop was pretty much the way to go. Think extra-large Tommy Hilfiger jeans, paired with Calvin Klein boxers sticking out a bit and a white top laced up in the back. Taken out of its early ’90s Mark Wahlberg context, its pretty much a vision of horror.
Name a current celeb whose style you admire and tell us why.
Chloë Sevigny. She dares to have a style not controlled by Hollywood's standards and she's always so avant-garde. Even when she's a “fashion don't” in a magazine, I want to steal her outfit!
What's a trend you hate?
Boho-chic. There's nothing chic about boho.
Why do you love the shopping/fashion scene in your town?
I love Montreal's fashion scene because there is room for everyone. From local indie-designer stores to big corporate stores downtown, thrift-stores, concept stores and so on, it gives a freedom of style, a freedom of budget and if you know what you're doing, a killer closet!
