Kate Middleton looks relaxed in Mulberry and Jonathan Saunders while things get tropical in the South Pacific

Since we last checked in with Kate Middleton and Prince William, they’ve travelled deeper and deeper into the South Pacific and, as such, are dressing the part. Don’t believe us? On Friday Kate was wearing a long-sleeve dress and a head scarf while walking in stockings through a mosque—today the Duchess is barefoot and wearing traditional beaded necklaces on a remote topical island. But! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves! On Saturday morning the couple visited Malaysia’s Danum Valley Conservation Area and explored the rainforest. (Are we the only ones who are reminded of an exhibit in the Natural History Museum when looking at the photos?) It was the couple’s first opportunity to dress in casual attire since arriving in Southeast Asia and Kate Middleton looked quite ready to explore the jungle in khaki cargo pants and a dark-green Zara blouse. She and Prince William both wore hiking boots—and given that their tour of the rainforest included being hoisted up on a harness 147 feet into the canopy, we’ll say the boots were a good call.
On Sunday, Kate Middleton and Prince William left Malaysia and headed to the Soloman Islands—and were greeted with floral necklaces and headdresses upon arrivial. Kate was, however, already wearing a cream coloured hat by Jane Taylor, and its turquoise beading matched the check-print dress by Jonathan Saunders she was wearing. It was also another first for the Duchess, as the green, turquoise and cream print is unlike anything we’ve seen Kate wear before—it’s very 1950s housewife, no? (Certainly more Betty Draper than Rebecca Pryce!) Also new were the shoes: while Kate Middleton was wearing her favourite LK Bennett Sledge heels, she opted for an off-white pair instead of her usual taupe. The Jonathan Saunders dress must have inspired Kate to keep wearing bright colours: for Sunday night’s Island Feast she wore a strapless fuchsia and orange batik-print dress which was given to her earlier that day. Made by local Solomon Island designer TAV Pacific, Kate was apparently so enamoured with the dress that she ditched her original wardrobe choice—or perhaps she just wanted to see Will in a matching tropical shirt? He was also gifted a TAV Pacific shirt in bright blue. Kate accessorized with her Stuart Weitzman Minx wedges, a gold bracelet by Catherine Zoraida and red coral earrings by Serretta—certainly the perfect outfit for an outside dinner in the South Pacific.
This morning, it was bright colours again for Kate Middleton. She wore a yellow pleated shirtdress by Jaeger while meeting with local indigenous tribes throughout the island of Honiara. Despite most of the tour taking her and Will off the beaten path, she had her trusty LK Bennett Sledge heels on throughout. And, doing what royals do best, the two spent the morning meeting various villagers and learning about charitable initiatives on the island—in particular Kate met with a women’s group while William attended a conference for youth leaders. That evening the royal couple were on the road yet again—or, water, in this case. After landing in Marau and being greeted by villagers Kate Middleton and Prince William travelled by boat to the island of Tavinapupu. We’re clearly seeing a very relaxed set of royals at this point: Will wore a pink shirt with rolled up sleeves and Kate was quite happy to accessorize her navy-blue Mulberry dress with beaded necklaces from locals. (Who, in a case of tongue-in-cheek coincidence, were bare-breasted when they met the Duchess.) Given that Tavinapupu is mostly a private resort island, will the royal couple be even more relaxed when we see them tomorrow? We’ll soon find out.
