Angelina Jolie appointed Honourary Dame by Queen Elizabeth II
As if Angelina Jolie wasn’t already having a banner year—with her recent nuptials to husband Brad Pitt and new movie, Unbroken, set to release later this year—she has, as of this morning, officially outdone herself. Presented by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, Jolie received honourary damehood in recognition for her services to UK foreign policy and campaign work against warzone sexual violence. As founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) Jolie has worked with UK Foreign Secretary William Hague in order to reduce and put an end to sexual violence in conflicted areas.
Although as a foreign citizen the actress cannot technically be named a dame, she was given the award in recognition of making the Queen’s 2014 Honours list back in June. Looking the perfect amount of elegant and sophisticated, the actress opted for a tailored skirt and matching peplum jacket in dove grey by British couture house Ralph & Russo. Keeping with the more conservative look, the humanitarian swept her hair up in an easy chignon and kept accessories to a minimum with simple pearl studs. The star has claimed that although her goal of ending sexual violence in war zones will take a lifetime to achieve, she is willing to devote hers to the cause.
