All about Princess Charlotte’s christening, from the designer details to the Royal throwbacks

On Sunday June 5th the adorable Princess Charlotte was baptized at Church of St Mary Magdalene. It was the first time all four members of the Royal Family were seen out together, and they were all certainly dressed for the occasion. The Princess was dressed in a custom handmade gown of Honiton lace (the same worn by Prince George), lined with satin made by Queen Elizabeth II’s dressmaker, Angela Kelly. Prince George wore a smocked set by Rachel Riley, identical to the outfit his father wore to meet Prince Harry in 1984. And speaking of throw-backs, the retro black and silver pram carrying Charlotte to the church in Norfolk was also used in the past for the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Royal outing without an incredibly fashionable appearance by Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen cream coatdress, paired with a cream hat by milliner Jane Taylor. Kate also selected her Russell & Bromley 5th Avenue shoes and accessorized with her Mappin & Webb Empress Pendant and matching Empress Drop Earrings. Pippa Middleton also looked fabulous for the occasion, wearing an Emilia Wickstead dress.
In addition to the stunning style choices and cute family photos, we also got to hear an exciting announcement from the Royal parents. Princess Charlotte’s godparents were announced: Adam Middleton, Laura Fellowes, James Meade, Sophia Carter, and Thomas van Straubenzee, an assortment and friends and relatives of the Duke and Ducchess. Though they all have their individual ties to the parents, royal commentator Victoria Arbiter noted that all the godparents share a similar bond with Will and Kate, and that “each has a long, in some cases life-long connection to William or Kate. Trust and loyalty are at the core.”
Not only were the godparents happy to wish Princess Charlotte and her parents the best on this special occasion, but thousands of Brits from the Norfolk area also arrived at the church to catch a glimpse of the Royal Family. This was the first time such a senior member of the Royal Family’s christening involved the public in any way, and it was much more publicized than Prince George’s in 2013. From donning a designer gown to being loved by fans and photographers alike, it looks like little Princess Charlotte is already following in her mother’s footsteps.
