6 reasons you’re going to be obsessed with The Man From U.N.C.L.E
If you’re suffering from post–Mad Men 1960s style withdrawal, the super buzzy The Man From U.N.C.L.E will effectively put an end to your afflictions with Courreges silhouettes, geometric drop earrings and caftan dresses when it hits theatres this Friday, August 14th, 2015. Guy Ritchie’s latest stars Louis Vuitton It girl Alicia Vikander alongside Brit and Russian spies, Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. Her wardrobe is pretty epic, as is that belonging to newcomer Elizabeth Debicki, who brings new life to block-hued column dresses and some serious statement earrings.

It’s not predictable
We all know that ‘60s fashion is about streamlined silhouettes and geometric shapes, but it’s also about freedom of expression and self-discovery. We’re all for a groovy pair of Go-Go boots, but we love that they weren’t predictably paired with one of Gaby’s mod minis. Costume designer Joanna Johnston’s free reign in dressing the women reflects the progressive sense of freedom of the time (and makes the outfits feel like more than just a ‘60s Halloween costume).
The short culottes
Culottes have been on-trend for quite some time now, but leave it to Gaby Teller to give them a ‘60s twist. The pleated orange-print play-dress Vikander wears actually happens to be short culottes (they were better for action scenes). Trendy, bold and functional—enough said!
It makes bumps and bruises look chic
A few scraps and bruises doesn’t stop Gaby Teller from looking her absolute best. In a balcony scene with Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill, Vikander dons a white shift dress that creates a clean contrast next to her bumps and bruises, and makes her seem unphased by the wounds. Bonus points that the dress seems to be a subtle nod to Audrey Hepburn.
The killer statement jewellery
Over-the-top jewellery has officially made its mark on Fall 2015 runways. From Blumarine’s single geometric shaped earring to Marni’s ‘60s hoops, designers held nothing back, which is why we’re excited Gaby and Victoria chose to keep things equally as interesting in the jewellery department. Gaby’s retro hoops along with Victoria’s unexpected take on pearls make for the perfect balance between retro ‘60s and current runway trends.
