Summer hasn’t even begun, and Power Ball has already earned its crown as the best party of the season—by a long shot. Last night’s edition, an ode to excess, was full of stylish oddities, octopus chandelier included.

The night began with an edible installation by artist Jennifer Rubell, which took form in a room of excessively oversized slabs of cheese, drawers of potatoes and loaves of bread tossed to partygoers on overlooking floors for extra effect. Canapes were served glory hole style, with hands revealing stick food creations from underneath a table.

MaxMara, the night’s title sponsor, added the sophisticate’s touch with an exhibit of dog photographs by William Wegman entitled “Dogs in Coats” (the dog in question was, of course, wearing the brand’s signature 10801 coat), with guests passing directly into the wild world of Power Ball XVII.

Partygoers dressed accordingly, with designer duds abound. Nelia Belkova and Diana Lynn VanderMeulen were twinning in the same dress by Aussie/Canuck designer Hayley Elsaesser and stylist Fiona Green decked out in navy Balenciaga. Meanwhile, Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy came direct from the season two set, dressed in the wares of his alter ego.

For most of the night, the cool crowd held court on the outdoor patio, where a kiddie pool full of rainbow coloured balls acted as the perfect photo opp. The pool had deflated mid-party, though. It couldn’t handle the excess weight.
