12 Years a Slave premiered last night at TIFF 2013 and it already has people buzzing about Oscar noms. On the red carpet outside the Princess of Wales theatre, director Steve McQueen chummily posed for photos with star Chiwetel Ejiofor, whilst Michael Fassbender triggered many a sigh in a navy pin dot two-piece Tom Ford suit. Meanwhile, alt-hunk of the moment Benedict Cumberbatch posed with Paul Giamatti in matchy-match relaxed suits with unbuttoned shirts.

And then there were the ladies: La La Anthony of Keeping up with the Kardashians fame wore a green leather dress so bodycon it looked like she’d been dipped in it molten plastic. 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o (who has the most radiant skin we have ever seen?!) was clad in head-to-toe Prada, wearing an embellished white long-sleeve dress with gold embellishment and matching accessories. Nyong’o was joined by the equally well-dressed Sarah Paulson, who wore a rose coloured George Hobeika ankle-length gown, perhaps the best get-up of the night.

The real news though was Brad Pitt who, after a days worth of heated Twittersphere debate as to whether he would show, arrived in Toronto just in time to walk the red carpet sans tie and (thankfully) sans beard. With his hair slicked back in a smooth ponytail, it was as close to retro Brad as it comes. Plus or minus a few face fillers, but who’s judging?
