Spas
A smaller, unpretentious alternative to the many sprawling, multi-level spas scattered around the city is Queen Street West’s Aliviar. Owner Ibeth DeHamilton believes that more than half of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies. Hence the use of animal by-product–free, organic vegan line Madlyn Rose and the equally vegan-friendly Smudgepot Cosmetics. Choose from seven organic and vegan facials and one eye treatment, or get enveloped in the sumptuous Chocolate Wrap ($150), which uses 100 per cent cocoa with moor mud.
Hair Removal
Ibeth Bermudez’s organic and vegan spa is highly recommended for sensitive waxers. She uses azulene wax made from chamomile, and her relaxed yet speedy approach means you’ll be hair-free in no time. A generous application of white clay pre- and post-wax is her secret to preventing irritation. Bikini, $25, Brazilian, $50.
