Even longtime customers wander into Avec Plaisir, spot a splash of swimwear, and gasp: “Oh, my God, is that new?” Owner Peter Panagakos says, “We’ve been doing swimwear for 30 years, but it’s a discreet selection. It’s very particular.” Indeed—all the suits are made by labels that also manufacture bras, like Christie’s and Roidal, so the fit is a notch or 10 above the mass-market norm. Prices correspond: Suits start at around $200 and soar to over $1,000 if you’d like, say, a Swarovski’d dazzler by La Perla.
