Joanna Wala’s new label, Sofiss (sofiss.com), shows her attachment to beautiful fabrics: tailored jackets, feminine silhouettes (dress shown, $545) and bell-sleeved tops are made up in rich florals and metallics. For winter, Wala is taking an edgier approach, with virgin wools and jerseys, and plenty of hardware, such as large metal buttons and oversized hook-and-eyes. Each collection includes a signature coat. At Ginger (10116 124 St., 780-488-3344).
