Vancouver Notes: Mischen
Carla Knapp's Mischen statement.
Winnipeg’s Carla Knapp parlayed a self-designed wedding dress into a fashion career that began at Parsons School of Design in New York, flourished in the studios of Jill Stuart and took wings with Mischen (mischenclothing.com), which showed its second season at September’s Gen Art Fresh Faces show in New York—the same show that launched Zac Posen, for one. Now her designs (silk dress shown, $190) hang next to Posen’s at L.A.’s Satine, as well as at New York’s Takashimaya and Toronto’s TNT Blu. “I’m focusing on making beautiful, thoughtful, unique garments that get better with each season,” says Knapp. We’ll be watching.
