Dry cleaner: Fletcher’s Fabricare
2096 W. Broadway, 604-731-9313, fletchersfabricare.ca.
This Kitsilano institution, with its kitschy sign and 1940s-style drive-through parking, is where many a fashion editor (and Vancouver Canuck wife) goes to get everything from suits to gowns cleaned. The staff wouldn’t think of using anything but eco-friendly hydrocarbon machines—we like that chemical perchloroethylene systems are not even an option here—and offer services such as suede and leather cleaning, bed-linen laundering, and acid-free packaging of wedding dresses (so your crinoline memories don’t end up yellow and stained). Bonus: An on-site seamstress can re-attach loose buttons and perform basic alterations.
Tailor: Stitch International Pacific Centre
609 Granville St., Suite 1, 604-689-2429, and two other Vancouver-area locations.
This location of Stitch International—right next to Blenz Coffee, where you can grab a matcha latté while you wait for your pants to be hemmed—is our favourite for its fast, friendly staff and personal customer-service touches. General manager Natalie Polishchuk has seen everything from broken zippers and shredded linings to frayed, ripped denim and worn-through elbows. Adore that 70-per-cent-off Balenciaga dress but can’t find it in your size? These ladies have been known to make something four-sizes-too-big fit.
