Montreal shops: Winter notes

Eyeing some fabulous shades and dreaming of a sunny sojourn.

Homegrown homeboy

The ’80s are back, and nothing says it more fabulously than a pair of shades. Twenty-seven-year-old Montrealer Corey Shapiro is a sunglasses supplier to the stars and owner of Vintage Frames Company (vintageframescompany.com, at Alain Assedo, 4933 Sherbrooke St. W., Westmount, 514-484-1259, alainassedo.com). He scours the planet for original, unworn stock of old-school labels and sells them to those in the know—like a certain outspoken rapper who’s a front-row fixture. Ladies, think vintage Lacroix, Dior, Laura Biagiotti or Cazal eyewear to set off those new shoulder pads. Shapiro has also launched his own line of retro-inspired frames cut from maple wood. The first model is a take on the Ultra Goliath style made famous by Run DMC.
