Vancouver shops: February notes
Surviving Olympic fever, gold medal pomade, keeping stylish time and more.
Take a breather
Need a break from all the hustle and bustle? Head to Forsya (2206 Main St., 604-568-8667, forsyaboutique.com), a Canadian-designer boutique located just outside the Olympic Village. I chatted with owner Julie Hebb about how to stay calm this month.
How will Forsya be a haven during the Games? “I’ve tried to make it feel like walking into someone’s living room. It’s not just a boutique—I also have rotating art shows, so if people want to come in and browse without shopping, they can definitely just have a look around. I even have a chaise and coffee table set up, where you can have a complimentary cup of tea or wait for any alterations, which I do for free onsite.”
What does “forsya” mean? “Pronounced ‘fors-eye-ah,’ it’s derived from my grandmother’s maiden name.”
The store’s first anniversary is coming up. How will you celebrate? “I’m launching a house label of easy, breezy dresses, tops and handbags.”
Any key picks as we head into spring? “I met Melissa Ferreira of Adhesif Clothing five years ago, and I love the Whirl bubble blouse (shown, $128) from her spring collection. It’s made from vintage lace and 1950s barkcloth.”
