Toronto shops: April notes
Sitting down with Daria, Morocco mania and Club Monaco shoes.
Daria’s room
When the Bay announced that Canadian supermodel (and seven-time FASHION cover girl) Daria Werbowy would be the face of The Room’s spring campaign, we knew it would be a match made in haute heaven. We sat down with the runway beauty on set in New York, among the racks of Balmain and Jason Wu (shown), to talk retail revivals and ready-to-wear.
Do you seek out Canadian projects like The Room’s campaign? “There’s definitely a lot more incentive for me to want to do it when it’s Canadian. I’m very proud to be Canadian, and appreciative of growing up there.”
What was your first impression of The Room? “I think they did a really beautiful job on it—the layout and plain white colour palette is very complementary to the clothes. You don’t get distracted.”
Supermodel status aside, how does the redesigned space speak to you as a woman and a shopper? “I think it’s really cool because it brings together high-end Canadian designers with designers from around the world. It increases the versatility of what women can wear now, which is sometimes constrained by where you’re from.”
With so many gorgeous spring looks on set, are there any pieces that are particularly speaking to you? “I’m a huge Alaïa fan—it’s an old name but such an iconic name in fashion. It’s incredible how it’s still so relevant for women all over the world.”
