Spas
News to note: Tonic is now carrying France’s prestigious Guinot line of skin care products, and the salon-spa’s decor is getting refreshed with Italian furniture (think: silver leather and red sinks). It’s still carrying the best of Aveda, broadening its services with more products and offering a full line of body treatments on the top floor. There’s a new relaxing massage from California, called the Esalen massage ($65), performed by Erica Clain.
Hair salons
Montreal’s powerhouse salon and spa on the Main, Tonic has the uncanny ability to stay fresh and trendy without scaring away clients who want to avoid radical styles. Leading the talent is Andrea Harrison, a cutter with top-notch colour skills. She won’t chop off all of your long hair unless directed, and she’ll kindly persuade you to change an unflattering shade. She knows all about covering greys, as well as creating voluminous haircuts and multi-dimensional colour. If it’s time to give up your blonde highlights, she’s just the pro to rebalance your base tone. Cuts from $40, colour from $50.
