Those expecting another cinematic adaptation of Lana Del Rey’s seedy sadcore world will have to settle for a rather understated take on the title track off her new album Ultraviolence. Save for a Cape Fear-worthy interaction with the hand belonging to an off camera male paramour, the singer walks alone through sepia-toned gardens in a white sixties mini complete with vintage lace veil. The video is the follow-up to “Shades of Cool,” the feelsy short depicting the kind of daddy who perfectly suits the subject matter of Del Rey’s modern take on The Crystals now-legend “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss).” Complicated feminism to say the least, “Ultraviolence” is just the latest in Lana Del Rey’s mixed-message fantasy and despite myself, I just can’t get enough.
Sorry Beliebers but Canada’s got a new chosen-by-the-people pop star/tween hunk and he almost broke the Internet earlier this week. GTA resident Shawn Mendes —with the help of his army of supporters—was trending on Twitter and number one on iTunes within 37 minutes of his EP release (#ShawnToNumber1!).
It all started in August of 2013 when Shawn Mendes posted a six second clip covering Justin Bieber‘s As Long as you Love Me to Vine. The snippet garnered more than ten thousand views overnight.
In the year since that viral video Mendes has amassed nearly 3 million followers on Vine, joined Canadian heavyweights Justin Bieber, Half Moon Run, and The Weeknd at Island Records, and is currently touring with another recent cyber sensation Austin Mahone.
It’s no secret many have been less than enthused with the behaviour of Canada’s reigning prince of pop. And while Bieber certainly needs unconditional love and support to navigate late-adolescence we can’t help but crave love ballads, cute tweets, and insta posts that pull at your heart strings – the simple things. As Bieber continues to navigate his early ’20s sans grace, Mendes reminds us why we love young sweet pop stars.
Here are the top ten reasons to heart Shawn Mendes:

Kate Middleton and Prince William showed up on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and once again, we see her Royal Highness attending today’s events in an outfit that is seriously giving us some serious deja vu.
Prior to watching the athletics together, the royal couple momentarily split off to attend separate receptions hosted by charitable organizations they are patrons for. While the princes visited young aspiring coaches of the Coach Core program at the Gorbals Leisure Centre, Kate attended a small mentoring session for 15 of the top British athletes hosted by SportsAid, an organization that supports and helps the young gen British athletes. If you recall, the Duchess has previously showed her support back in October when she made her first appearance since the birth of Prince George where she elegantly played a game of volleyball in her casual wear uniform. For those who balk at the thought of wearing your only workout outfit to spinning class each week, look no further than the Duchess of Cambridge, who has made an art out of recycling the same sport-apropos outfit time and time again. At the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow Scotland today, Kate Middleton went for the good ole skinny jeans (J Brand), navy blazer (Pucci) and cork wedges (Stuart Weitzman) she wore to the Olympics, while on Royal Tour of New Zealand and for various charity events over the past few years. According to guesses from intrepid Kate tweeter What Kate Wore, the uptake in Royal repeats as of late might be a strategic play to offset the cost of Kensington Palace renovations. Also though, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? How many times a week do you wear skinny jeans?

Last night, Candice Chan and Alison Slight celebrated the five year anniversary of their powerhouse company, Candice & Alison Events Group. The event planning duo are known for their innovative and memorable parties, sharp attention to every little detail, and taste for luxury. Candice and Alison have worked with brands like BMW, Chanel, Christian Dior and Cadillac, and with celebrities such as Oprah, Elton John and Kanye West.
When you receive a Candice & Alison invitation, you clear your calendar, and that’s just what we did. The gorgeous five year anniversary celebration was held at Malaparte at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and was split into two different spaces. The first portion of the evening was Slight’s environment: elegant, light and all-white. The second portion was Chan’s all-black and explored the rich darkness that contrasted the first half. Guests were dressed to match the decor, and the results were, as you can see, visually stunning.
