It must be mighty cold in London right now, because today Kate Middleton recycled another outfit from Christmas of last year. The eggplant-purple coat was last seen on Christmas morning, when the Duchess wore it to the royal family’s holiday church service Sandringham. This morning, however, she accessorized the coat in much the same style as she did yesterday: with a wide Alexander McQueen belt, black tights and her black suede Aquatalia by Marvin K boots. She did however swap out the green amethyst Kiki McDonough earrings for her citrine drop pair. (And, if you’re curious, Kate Middleton was reportedly wearing a maroon dress by Whistles underneath but alas, no pictures or further details are available!)

But here’s where it gets interesting: the coat is said to be by an independent designer, just like the yellow eyelet lace dress Kate Middleton wore in the Soloman Islands. The British media are reporting that the designer is actually Kate herself, who’s making one-off items with the help of the Queen’s seamstress. Let’s repeat that: Kate Middleton is designing clothing. We know that she was very much involved in the design of her wedding dress and who can forget the charity fashion show she took part in during university? We shall now spend the rest of the day imagining Sarah Burton sending Kate Middleton design tips and then extrapolate this fantasy into a complete ready-to-wear collection with a runway show and all. Come on, Kate! You know it would be a hit!
