Mexican-Portuguese pop-up restaurant Oxala is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a Junction blowout of food, live music and local and international street art. Tasty tacos, vegetarian tamales, ceviche shooters and specialty cocktails will be on hand.

Suki’s Celebrates 40th Anniversary
South Granville hair institution Suki’s blows out 40 candles this Saturday with a grand birthday fete at the Vancouver Art Gallery. The gala event will feature a retrospective of the company’s stunning work over the past four decades along with live models and DJs.

The Monstrous Baroque Refinery Late-Night Art Party
The latest in the Art Gallery of Alberta’s über-successful series of Refinery parties, Monstrous Baroque promises supernatural creatures mingling amidst 17th-century style decadence. The dress code is opulent baroque so don’t leave home without your beaded Balmain minidress.

The Design Exchange has partnered with Ikea for Auktion. Twenty Canadian designers were sent to the Swedish furniture manufacturer with $500 in their pockets to spend on products they’d deconstruct and reassemble in any way they liked. The resulting creations—by the likes of Castor, Philip Sparks and Thrush Holmes Empire—will all be on the auction block.

Winter Woofstock
Pooch got a case of canine cabin fever? Take Fido out for an afternoon on the town filled with shopping, socializing and sniffing at Winter Woofstock. My single-and-ready-to-mingle miniature poodle is most looking forward to the first ever Doggie Dating Soirée. Grrr baby.

The holiday pop-up shops keep on, well, popping.
