Today’s tour itinerary brought the royals to New Zealand’s South Island, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visiting the Blenheim War Memorial and stopping to greet the many local faces who lined up to meet them. Blue is one of Kate Middleton’s favourite colours to wear (just scroll through our complete gallery of her every look to see what we mean) and rightfully so: look how flattering that cornflower blue coat is! The piece is a custom design from Alexander McQueen, combining elements from two belted crepe coats available this season. The stunning colour, however, is all Kate—or perhaps was a suggestion from designer Sarah Burton, who clearly knows how to make the duchess shine.

Kate’s very bouncy ponytail added some extra oomph to the look. It may have been a clever way to keep her hair looking its best while out and about in the rain, but the style really shows off the skills of Amanda Cook Tucker, Kate’s hairstylist. The voluminous style was finished with a wrapped ponytail—and is all the more impressive when you consider that Kate wore her hair down later in the day. As for the rest of the look, Kate wore a commemorative Remembrance Day poppy pin, blue suede Alexander McQueen pumps and carried a clutch by Stuart Weitzman. Finally, there was another nod to the all-blue theme with her jewellery: Kate wore the sapphire and diamond earrings that match her engagement ring.
