New family portraits have been released on the eve of Prince George’s first birthday and we’re absolutely smitten. (what else is new) Though the public is seeing them for the first time, the family portrait, photographed by Press Association photographer John Stillwell, was actually taken a few weeks ago when the Royal family visited Sensational Butterflies exhibition at the National History Museum before heading over to Wimbledon.

Both candid photos show the Royal family in an informal setting, happily observing and pointing out the many butterflies fluttering around. One photo shows the family looking up in the same direction with Georgie adorably reaching into the air, but we can’t stop smiling at the second picture where the trio is sitting on a bench with the curious little prince on Kate Middleton’s lap ready to touch the Blue Morpho butterfly resting on his father’s hand. Honestly, can they be any more perfect? (Nope)

Marking their son’s birthday, the happy parents issued the following public statement: “We would like to take this opportunity on George’s first birthday to thank everyone over the last year, wherever we have met them both at home and overseas, for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family.”

We already talked about Prince George’s cute outfit here, but no Kate post is complete without discussing the #ootd of the mother of the future king of England. Being a casual event, it was fitting to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dress in informal attire (but elegant, of course). While Prince William opted for a white shirt and blue pants, Kate went for a budding heart print silk dress by Suzannah that kind of resembled little white butterflies, making it the perfect outfit choice for the nature excursion. And as we had predicted in our last Kate post, we finally got to see the day dress (albeit a glimpse) she wore underneath the Erdem coat for the Tour de France send-off. With the prince in tow, the Duchess kept her accessories at a minimum and styled her look with a pair of Annoushka pearl drop earrings.

And in other Kate news, we hear she will soon be making her first solo trip to Malta on behalf of the Queen to mark the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence. As she will be visiting the Mediterranean, here’s to hoping for island outfits galore!
