Just released: Watch Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence” video

Those expecting another cinematic adaptation of Lana Del Rey’s seedy sadcore world will have to settle for a rather understated take on the title track off her new album Ultraviolence. Save for a Cape Fear-worthy interaction with the hand belonging to an off camera male paramour, the singer walks alone through sepia-toned gardens in a white sixties mini complete with vintage lace veil. The video is the follow-up to “Shades of Cool,” the feelsy short depicting the kind of daddy who perfectly suits the subject matter of Del Rey’s modern take on The Crystals now-legend “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss).” Complicated feminism to say the least, “Ultraviolence” is just the latest in Lana Del Rey’s mixed-message fantasy and despite myself, I just can’t get enough.
