Is it actually possible to repair split ends without cutting my hair?
If you’re attached to every bit of your hair length, the desire to hold off from making a cut can be strong—even when split ends are everywhere. That being said, there isn’t a way to fully repair split ends. However, if you’re interested in minimizing the appearance of split ends between haircuts, that can certainly be achieved with the right products. Tresemmé Split Remedy Shampoo & Conditioner ($7 each, well.ca) contains positively charged polymers in a gel base that’s attracted to your negatively-charged split ends. This seals the split ends and provides a smoother appearance of each strand—while allowing you to wait out your next haircut with sleek, not scraggly, hair.

With the end of fashion week in Toronto marking the close of Spring 2014 show season, it’s time we looked back at all the trends that emerged. As much as the runway sets the pace for what’s to come for the top Spring 2014 trends, the streets play a major role as show-going trendsetters give us the relatable breakdown of how to wear what’s hot next season. Prints take two spots on our top Spring 2014 trends list through those with a painterly quality and those influenced by international cultures. At Hérmes, Rousseau-inspired water lily florals were printed on luxurious fabrics while at Diane Von Furstenberg, dresses and skirts depicting an African wilderness roared. As for fashionable time travel, prepare to keep reminiscing about the youthful 1990s, which haven’t ceased to get reincarnated season after season. Designers like Rodarte, Balmain and Jason Wu have reinvented the decade’s essentials yet again. To help with your daydreaming of long sunny spring days we’ve compiled the ultimate gallery of top Spring 2014 trends as dictated by the runways and our favourite street style stars in New York, London, Milan, Paris and Toronto! Feel free to let this be your guide to budgeting and creating closet space for next season’s must have pieces.

I feel like every time I paint my nails, I can’t sit still long enough to let them dry. How can I speed up this process?
I think it’s practically a rule in life that when you’re waiting for your freshly painted nails to dry, you’ll suddenly have an undeniable urge to reach into your purse or pocket. Fortunately, we can usher the drying process along by applying a couple drops of Quo by Orly Dry In A Sec drops ($10, at Shoppers Drug Mart) on each nail. These drops utilize quick-drying silicones to protect the polish from smudging while drying at a rapdi. And keep in mind that when you’re applying your colour, thin, even coats of nail polish (instead of thicker coats) will be your best friend if you really want to reduce your drying time! As much as fantasy rules the runways during New York fashion week (hello Marchesa) if you peel away the layers of D-R-A-M-A there’s often a few very wearable (translation: work-to-weekend) pieces thrown into the mix. And we’re not just talking bags, though accessories tend to be the bread and butter of ready-to-wear brands. At the end of the day, or rather the start of it, women want to go into their closets and pull out something cool, classic and chic. A simple silhouette; an easy-to-digest colour palette; pieces with serious day-to-night endurance. There will always be a time and place for a knock-your-socks-off frock but most days we crave fashion that says me, only better. Here are 5 ways to wake up your wardrobe for Fall 2013.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 backstage beauty: One show, two (or more!) beauty looks was the trend at Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Anna Sui and more

Alexander Wang Spring 2013 backstage beauty

Photography by Peter Stigter

Remember when makeup artist Francois Nars created 65 different looks for the Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 show? Well, that didn’t happen this time around at New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 but some designers did decide to deviate from a uniform beauty statement, creating a few different looks for one show. Here’s our rundown of the best double takes from backstage:

Alexander Wang
Though Guido Palau gave every girl at Alexander Wang a tight, low ponytail, the accessory that ran down the centre part differed—a glow-in-the-dark adhesive strip on blondes and a black one for brunettes. The fair-haired set also had a different experience in the makeup chair: Diane Kendal bleached brows and created luminous skin, while their dark-haired counterparts had strong brows and matte skin.
