Designer Wedding Dresses

As many designer-loving brides have already figured out, white wedding dresses are simply that: white dresses. (Actually, sometimes wedding dresses aren’t even white, but I digress.) And while there will always be legions of Say Yes to the Dress fans who dream of trying on elaborate confections in a bridal boutique, there is no rule that says a wedding dress must be created especially for the occasion (a.k.a. with a price tag that would make most bring up their breakfast). As such, searching for wedding dresses in unexpected places might just produce unexpected results. Case in point: Net-a-Porter‘s annual spring sale which started today and has a pretty epic selection of stunning white designer dresses that can easily double as wedding dresses. Always dreamt of owning a Marchesa but balked at the price? Now’s your chance! These babies are selling fast so if you’re in the bridal market, get thee to this slideshow. Your dreams await!

If you, like me, spent the weekend soaking up the sun while glued to your phone in anticipation of #KimyeWedding details, you are not alone. You are also not creepy, but hey, maybe you are. In the span of three days, I followed every Kardashian offspring, learned that Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing has found a new bestie in Kardasian makeup artist Joyce Bonelli and most importantly, that all photos of the actual wedding are sure to be locked up in a future issue of People Magazine. Frustration, thy name is single paparazzi shot, fractured hashtags and Jay-Z/Beyoncé no-show.

Is this an Insta wedding hint? Kim Kardashian wears Balmain to her Paris bachelorette party

Kim Kardashian Paris Bachelorette

If you’ve been keeping up with the Kardashians on Instagram accounts, you would know that Kim Kardashian’s bachelorette party took place last night in Paris. Joined by besties and family members in dark party attire, Kimmy stuck to the pre-nuptial trend and stood out (per usual) wearing white. While mortals like us would simply opt for little white dress, leave it to the bride-to-be to show up in a form-fitting and super embellished Balmain mini dress. According to Hollywood Life, the mini cost $20,000, but hey—the Fall 2012 collection’s gotta be on sale by now, right?

However, the real million-dollar question has still yet been answered. With the wedding taking place tomorrow, no one still has any idea what her dress looks like and who’s it by (honestly, there’s just as much secrecy as Kate Middleton’s royal wedding!). But if we were to bet our money on it, Kimmy and soon-to-be hubby Kanye West have been making multiple trips to Paris in the past few months meeting up with designers like Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, we can safely assume her wedding dress be by one of them, right? Probably. There is no doubt that the power duo has super close connections with Tisci, but seeing that Kardashian has been spotted shopping in multiple Balmain dresses and has donned two gorgeous Lanvin pieces on the infamous Vogue cover and at the Met Gala, only time will tell. For all we know, she might even step out in three wedding dresses! With only less than 24 hours till the wedding, there is no doubt all eyes will be on #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple.

Your first time at any international fashion week will teach you a valuable lesson: You need a fur. And not just any Margot Tenenbaum style granny hand-me-down. A fur so intricately patterned, multi-layered and artificially coloured, that it has to be designer. Given its place at the apex of the top Fall 2014 trends, you’d think recessionary times were long gone—it’s virtually everywhere, from a hyper colour mink at Altuzarra to a fluffy red dress at Prada. Wear it with caution or as Dior prescribes, dangle it over your arm like it’s no big d. Let the fur fly, scruples or otherwise.

There are some definite perks to being one of the world’s biggest superstars. Private birthday party weekend in Aspen? Check. New Year’s Eve celebrations with your bestie Cara Delevingne? Check. But perhaps the biggest perk of all, is getting to sit front and centre at the major fashion shows, obviously wearing all the latest designs too. Rihanna is one lucky girl, and has been out in Paris all week long, showing her support for her designers pals at shows like Lanvin—‘sup Alber Elbaz?—and Balmain, oh hey Olivier Rousteing!—in show stopping outfits.

At Lanvin’s Fall 2014 show, she opted for a head-to-toe look by the fashion house mixing black tapered trousers with a slate grey fluted jacket with soft pleats at the waistline, topped off by a camel fedora. The pièce de résistance, however, was the eye-catching wraparound grey fur stole worn horizontally across the chest—we smell a new trend. Read more »

Top 10 Fashion Influencers 2013

Capping off a year in style always seems so, for lack of a better word, crazy. With just about a meme a minute and the web’s proclivity for hyperbole (we’re guilty), there seem to have been so many “best moments ever.” Many of those moments involved the 10 influencers on this list, which helps. But many of them, like this, this and this will just live in our mind for all eternity until we fixate on something else. Meanwhile, here’s who we think was at the top of their game in 2013.

Queen Bey had her week, it’s Rihanna’s time to shine. So seems to say the Balmain Spring 2014 ad campaign released this morning starring none other than the icon herself. The ads feature the 25-year-old singer in two looks from the label’s latest collection: an off the shoulder gold embellished denim top and high-waisted jeans and a bubble gum pink kimono worn with the sure-to-be-sellouts gold tipped lace booties. Photographed by Inez and Vinoodh and styled by Mel Ottenberg, it’s just the latest in a long line of Rihanna iterations to be renewed the next moment she chooses to step out.

“When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete,” Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing tells WWD. High praise, sure, but wouldn’t all of us agree? With her one album a year, ten outfits a day streak, RiRi is undoubtedly the girl of this generation’s dreams.
