Whether you live for the glamour of red carpet galas or are obsessed with how stars dress when they’re off duty and street stylin’ it up, this past weekend has you covered. Things started off with a sartorial bang at the Tiffany & Co. Blue Book gala in New York City. Jessica Biel and Katie Holmes were amongst the notable guests, and both dressed in black and white. But it was Kate Bosworth, in a pink silk Katie Ermilio dress, who stole the style show that night before jet setting to the golden coast to join Emmy Rossum at the Alexander Wang and H&M Coachella party. Video: Behind the scenes with Beyoncé’s tour stylists

While some might have you believe that the magic of Beyoncé is just that, magic, the queen is revealing the team of stylists that help her prep for daily global domination. The latest installment in a string of behind-the-scenes tour videos released on her YouTube page provides some serious designer eye-candy as we delve into the wonderful world of wardrobe for the Mrs. Carter World Tour. In the video, tour stylists Ty Hunter and Raquel Smith give an up close and personal look at all the different tour outfits and share how looks are chosen, how they come together and some insider details on those quick costume changes (think layers) from Givenchy to Ungaro and beyond. One Versace employee shares how long it took to make that insane white and silver fitted number (spoiler: a paltry 300 hours). For the Crazy in Love segment, the secret to better on-stage twerking is revealed and it includes plenty of ruffled patent leather.

Is the blue dress this year’s definitive red carpet trend?

Blue Red Carpet Trend 2014

See all the on trend dresses here »

While the LBD is a term we all know and love, the acronym has a new meaning in the most recent hottest red carpet trend: the Long Blue Dress. We first saw the look back in January with Amy Adams’ amazingly vivid Antonio Berardi dress at the SAG Awards. Since then, Adams and others, have opted for bold blue hues over the ole faithful black. Is this a preview of what’s to come this weekend at the Academy Awards?

Wearing a head-to-toe colour can sometimes give off a certain vibe—a slinky red dress will always have sexy undertones for example—but blue is much more versatile. Take Beyoncé’s sequined blue dress by Vrettos Vrettakos at the Brit Awards and Amy Adams’ teal Frocktalk by Kristin Burke look for example. Two very different looks—one modern, the other old Hollywood glamour—were achieved despite being similar shades and both long sleeved floor length silhouettes.

Similarly, Olivia Munn’s plunging J. Mendel open-back gown featured a definite retro hourglass shape but was updated thanks to the unexpected bright blue colour. A red or white version of the dress would have felt a little stale or predictable—going for an unusual shade of blue makes gives the dress that little something extra. The same goes for Ellie Goulding’s recent Roberto Cavalli number where a rich hue of royal blue gives the fairly casual silhouette some oomph.

If the last few months have taught us anything where Beyoncé’s concerned, it’s to expect the unexpected. Grammys beauty: Why Beyoncé’s wet hair and Lorde’s dark lips were the best looks of the night

We understand it may be wildly unfair to compare Beyoncé to, well, anyone else. But Lorde was blessed by Bey last night (touching Beyoncé = blessed) and she also took home two Grammy awards, so we think that gives her enough music industry magic to stand her own in this beauty roundup.

While teenage stars often succumb to adopting a shimmering, fairy princess-esque look for major red carpet events, Lorde stayed true to her signature look of deep lipstick and loose, wavy hair— like an edgy, mini Alanis Morissette. “We wanted to keep the look fresh and radiant. Modern, a bit boyish and darkly cool with a lip focus,” said M.A.C senior artist, Amber Dreadon. After applying M.A.C Lipliner in “Vino,” Dreadon mixed two lipsticks together for Lorde’s Grammys look: “Heroine” (a bright purple with a fitting name) and “Cyber” (a vamp-worthy maroon). The final result was an edgy shade of deep-purple with an almost ombré effect. Read more »

The scoop on Beyoncé and Jay-Z “Drunk in Love” Grammy performance looks

Chair dance. Wet hair. Surfboard. Need we say more? The web’s been a buzz with Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s sultry “Drunk in Love” opening of last night’s Grammy Awards. And while the many GIFs and listicles might have already alerted you to the many ways it rocked, we’re here to talk about our favourite part: the clothes.

Beyoncé wore a mesh bodysuit designed by London-based lingerie label Nichole de Carle, which featured a cage overlay just perfect for a Queen trying to prevent her inner fierceness from leaking into the crowd. Said bodysuit was paired with a La Perla collar, custom bra, crystal Saint Laurent tights via the Fall 2013 runways and custom Swarovski-encrusted Stuart Weitzman “Swoon” pumps. Underneath her wet-look curls (word is, it’s actually oil from root to tip), Queen Bey wore Jennifer Fisher earrings.

As per usual, Hova repped Tom Ford on stage, wearing a black cocktail jacket, white evening shirt, black bow tie and black leather evening shoes by the designer.

Everyone’s already said it, but that ish was earth quaking.

Last night, music’s reigning royal couple, Beyoncé and Jay Z, continued to win at life, opening Grammys 2014 with one hella sexy lovefest courtesy of Bey’s new single, “Drunk in Love.” Aside from their amazing performance and some collaborations from our wildest dreams—hello Pharrell Williams, Daft Punk and Stevie Wonder!—there were some very unusual outfits. From country songstress Kacey Musgraveslight up cowboy boots to Cyndi Lauper’s caped get up, fashion critics were split on most of the outfits from the night.

Taking a cue from Diane Keaton’s stylish tuxedo at the recent Golden Globes, Madonna went androgynous in a Ralph Lauren double-breasted tux, accessorizing with a sparkly glove, gold grills, and her son David who walked the carpet by her side. Katy Perry showed some love for Valentino, rocking a couture white tulle confection with staffs of sheet music splashed across the skirt. Some thought it verged on tacky, but we give her mad props for embodying the night’s theme so fully.

Both Ciara and Alicia Keys showed how to make the most of curves. Ciara showed off her baby bump in a fitted Emilio Pucci dress, keeping her hair and make up perfectly low key, as to not overwhelm the sequined get up. Similarly, Alicia Keys, kept her coiffed hair and make up simple, and let her cobalt blue Armani Privé halter gown take centre stage. The plunging neckline might be too much for some, but Alicia pulls off the bold look effortlessly.

Roberto Cavalli Costume Sketches Miley Cyrus Bangerz Tour

By now, we’re no stranger to wardrobe changes during a big ticket event. Big name equals even bigger outfits. Anne Hathaway changed eight times during her, somewhat tumultuous, Oscars hosting gig. Taylor Swift had 11 changes on her Red Tour, including one 4.5 second costume change. Madonna, the biggest name of all, broke the Guinness World Record in 2000 for most costumes changes in a film—85 in Evita. So when Miley Cyrus announced her upcoming Bangerz tour, we knew there was gonna be some serious wardrobe action.

Not one to shy away, Cyrus has enlisted the services of some of the most notorious designers around, each to outfit her for segments of the show. Marc Jacobs, a close friend of the singer, is said to have designed a few, and if his finale at Louis Vuitton is anything to go by, we know we can expect some in-your-face designs. And we mean that in the best way possible. Cyrus has also tapped the design duo behind The Blonds, of Beyoncé’s ‘boob suit’ as well as her own New Years Eve gold suit, as well as some archive pieces from legendary designer Bob Mackie, the man behind all those infamous Cher outfits. So far, lots of designers with oodles of shock factor.
