When Diane Von Furstenberg hit the scene back in the ’70s, her wrap dress was the most significant piece in any working woman’s wardrobe. “Feel like a woman, wear a dress,” she often said. What she really meant was “Feel like a woman, while calling the shots like a man.” How fitting it is to see history’s most “real world” Royal sporting one of those iconic dresses today. And digging earth at that!

Earlier today, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Australia’s Blue Mountains. The rugged natural region is a hotspot for adventure-seekers and brushfires alike, the latter of which damaged over 200 properties in the area last year. Arriving by helicopter (Kate’s hair was in a pony for the ride, just FYI), the ever-dutiful couple met with brushfire victims and first responders as well as some adorable Girl Guides who opted to say “princess” instead of “cheese” for their Kate Middleton photo op. The couple also partook in a tree planting ceremony where Kate put that DVF to good use, as she dug some space for the red eucalyptus planted to commemorate last year’s damage.

Simple and demure was the name of the game for two of Hollywood’s style mavens.  This past week, Allison Williams and Scarlett Johansson ditched the glitz and opted for a softer approach to dressing, sporting similarly casual black and white looks.

At the opening party for Diane Von Furstenberg’s “Journey of a Dress retrospective exhibition at the Wilshire May Building in Los Angeles (on through April 1, 2014), Williams went apropos in a signature DVF wrap. The dress featured a simple black top and contrasting flared black and white polka dot skirt, which she paired with white Jimmy Choo ankle-strap heels and ‘40s glamour girl curls.

Diane Von Furstenberg announces second collection for Gap

Did you miss out on the Diane von Furstenberg collection for GapKids and babyGap last year? Good news! Gap has just announced that a second collection will be released for April 2013.

Diane von Furstenberg is known for her use of bright, punchy colours and patterns—-a perfect complement to Gap’s children lines. The first collection was a huge success. “I really loved the challenge of translating my designs into the first DVF for Gap collection,” said the designer via press release. “It was so much fun to see little girls wearing the pieces and I’m looking forward to collaborating with Gap on this second collection.”

On Saturday, Hollywood’s youngest fashionistas crawled to The Grove to celebrate the world premiere of the Gap Kids + DVF collection. Daughters of Milla Jovovich, Busy Phillips, Alyson Hannigan, Tiffani Thiessen, and Jessica Capshaw joined their moms and Diane Von Furstenberg at the wild G-rated party. Guests were served gourmet mac and cheese and pink lemonade in DVF juice boxes while they decorated paper dolls, shopped the collection, and accessorized with balloon hats. Later, they strutted down a kiddie-sized catwalk, sat in makeup chairs for gloss touch-ups, and chased real puppies in a picket-fence playpen.

Kate Middleton Style

Kate Middleton style, from the beginning »

We present your complete guide to everything Kate Middleton/Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge/the Future Queen of England has worn since officially becoming destined for the throne. Since her first appearance alongside Prince William in a cobalt blue Issa wrap dress upon the announcement of their engagement; she’s wowed as the new heir to The People’s Princess throne. Like Diana before her, Kate’s got a way with fashion, which this time around has translated to the best high low mix we’ve ever seen on the celebrity front. Frequently mixing designer pieces with High Street one offs, Kate Middleton’s style is as synonymous with Alexander Mcqueen as it is Topshop. The Duchess is also known for introducing little (or at least lesser) known designer labels to the mainstream, making household names of Erdem, Christopher Kane, LK Bennett and Jenny Packham.

We’ve been following Kate through the stages of her wedding, her inaugural visit to North America (wassup!), and most recently, her pregnancy. It’s safe to say Kate Middleton style is a fixture of this here website, but hey, we don’t need to convince you. Fancy a gander at any and everything she’s outfitted herself in over the past 3 years? It’s all here! Just try to pick a favourite. We dare you.

Inside last night’s Holt Renfrew fête: The three Coveteurs and many (many) designer duds

Comments

Photography by Phil Birnbaum

Last night, Holt Renfrew fêted Erin Kleinberg, Stephanie Mark, and Jake Rosenberg, the home-grown trio behind voyeuristic style site The Coveteur. Held in the the shoe department of the Bloor Street flagship store, the soiree debuted a new photo exhibit previewing the store’s fall footwear collections, as well as the closets of Canadian taste-makers Dee Dee Taylor Eustace, Gabor Jurina (whose closet was guest-edited by our very own Susie Sheffman), Sylvia Mantella, and Lynda Latner. The three Coveteurs (get it?) looked as chic as the venue, with Kleinberg in a flowing DVF and Céline choker, Mark in Alaïa, and Rosenberg in Hugo Boss. Natch.

Style studio: Our tips, tricks and picks for mixing bold prints

Comments

Photography by Carlo Mendoza

Mixing prints is a fun way to liven up any outfit. It can be a bit tricky, though, so be cautious and don’t overwhelm your body. Wild, mismatched patterns are in desperate need of a slim, well-fitted silhouette to draw the eye in—the wrong fit risks making you look more like a bulk bag of gummies than eye candy. Don’t be shy with colour. For the perfect pop, extract one shade from a print in the form of a shoe. And limit your accessories, keeping the chosen few minimal. If you’re still weary about mixing prints, get your feet wet by wearing one strong pattern on the body and incorporate another with a bag. Novices beware: Leave mixing more than two prints at a time to the experts.
