We all know when it comes to sports, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are big fans, so it’s always nice to see the royal duo come out and support British athletes and sporting events hosted by the United Kingdom. Plus, it gives us an excuse to talk about all things Kate Middleton. This past Saturday, Kate joined Prince William and Prince Harry to kick off the launch of the Tour de France at Harewood House in Leeds. Quite the treat for the competing 22 teams, the royal trio greeted and waved off the anxious riders as they embarked on their 2, 272 mile four-country race that starts off in Leeds and finishes off in Paris. For the day’s event, the Duchess chose a bright green wool coat by Erdem from the Pre-Fall 2014 collection, which we last saw on her during the royal tour Down Under when the Cambridges visited Cambridge. The knee-length tailored coat was worn over a similar hue printed silk dress by Suzannah. Although it was hidden this time, knowing Kate, she’ll recycle this dress in no time. Allowing her coat to be the statement piece, she teamed it with a neutral-coloured clutch by L.K. Bennett and matching patent pumps by the same designer and added a pair of emerald earrings that coordinated accordingly to her outfit, as usual. Read more »

Kate Middleton makes us green with envy in Erdem and Jonathan Saunders at two sporting events this weekend
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Scotland yesterday (without Prince George, insert sad face emoji) for their royal duties as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn. This is their first visit to the region since being given the titles in 2011. Before spending the rest of day touring a distillery and visiting a village fête, for their first stop, the duo visited the Strathearn Community College to greet young scouts, cadets and reps from Scotland’s Air Ambulance service. While William chatted it up with the rescue team, Kate Middleton got a warm welcome from a group of young girl guides and was gifted a large teddy bear in a Stathearn kilt for Prince George from the people.
For her first official public appearance since the Australian Royal Tour, Kate Middleton wore a regal-looking wool jacquard coat by Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders (how fitting) from the Fall 2013 collection. Although we can only catch a glimpse of her dress, Middleton donned a matching pink-hue dress by Goat, a designer she has stepped out in before. While she opted for neutral-coloured accessories—a patent leather clutch and her go-to pair of pumps– by L.K. Bennett, the Duchess surprised us with the addition of Celtic-designed brooch we’ve never seen before. Her stunning engagement ring, Kiki McDonough drop earrings and her Cartier watch she wears on repeat completed her look. With Kate’s calendar being much busier in the coming months, we know this summer we’re going to be sartorially (and royally!) satisfied.
And we’re off! The royal tour of Australia and New Zealand has officially begun, with Kate, Will and Prince George arriving at Wellington Airport yesterday afternoon. It was our first IRL glimpse of the little prince since his christening last fall and that baby did not disappoint. (Case in point: He already has his own grumpy baby face meme.)
Also in the not disappointing us department was Kate Middleton, whose scarlet-red ensemble was a certainly a nod to Jackie Kennedy’s signature style. The military button coat was by Catherine Walker, who designed many outfits for Princess Diana but we’ve only seen Kate wear her twice before—both times during her tour of Canada in 2011. The coat was paired with a matching red dress and Gina Foster pillbox hat. Its placement is probably what evokes the most comparisons to Jackie O—seriously, if you squint at this Instagram you could mistake it for a photo from the ’60s!—with the hat resting at the crown of Kate’s head, her hair neatly tucked half-up underneath. Kate Middleton celebrates St. Patrick’s Day in a trenchcoat by Hobbs and with another flawless blowout
Happy St Paddy’s Day! While Irish folk (and those just looking for a good time) revel with green beer on this side of the pond, the royals were up for ceremony in England. Earlier today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took part in a 300-person parade with members of the British army in Aldershot. And while spreading Irish luck might have been the ostensible theme, y’all know Kate’s coat is what we want to talk about. In 2012 and 2013, the Duchess wore a shamrock green coatdress by British designer Emilia Wickstead, and while it served her well both with and without baby bump, she’s retired it in favour of today’s coat: a double breasted wool trench by high street brand Hobbs. The Persephone coat (it’s on sale!) is cinched to perfection with a green snakeskin belt, paired with green suede pumps by Valerie Carbon and embellished with a gold Cartier shamrock brooch previously worn by the Queen Mother and Princess Anne. Overtop her latest blowout, Kate’s wearing the hard-shell beret by milliner Gina Foster that debuted on Christmas Day. Underneath those flowing locks, there are green amethyst drop earrings by Kiki McDonough—but what’s frosting when the cake’s already so flawless?

Based on her diamond-encrusted outing earlier this week and a morning spent in the public eye today, it seems Kate Middleton’s royal engagement schedule is back on track—and we couldn’t be more chuffed. This morning Kate was out in the London borough of Ealing to officially open The Art Room at Northolt High School, and helping spread some feel-good Valentine’s Day vibes along the way.
As a Royal Patron of the charity, Kate has championed its work bringing art therapy to youth undergoing challenges in their lives. While Kate’s appearance was a solo one, it was a giving day for all the royals: Prince William spent the day with Harry, helping the army build flood protection barriers in the southern parts of England. We’ll assume the happy couple will be spending some quality Valentine’s Day time together later tonight. Read more »
The biggest royal contingent in years set upon the Queen’s Sandrigham estate to celebrate Christmas yesterday and despite last week’s reports that those further down in the pecking order would have to sleep in servants rooms (the horror!), it looks like yesterday’s festivities went off without a hitch. Spirits were high, especially for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who walked to St. Mary Magdalene church hand in hand and greeted well-wishers on the way. Many asked after Prince George, though unsurprisingly, he did not make an appearance. Prince Harry did make an appearance, sporting his fresh from the South Pole beard alongside Will and Kate.

Who wore off-white best: a pudgy-cute baby in a dress or the always-stunning Kate Middleton? Okay, it’s not a fair comparison, but with Prince George on the scene, attention is certainly divided. The three month old heir to the throne was christened this morning at an intimate royal affair—just 22 guests are reported to have been in attendance, including the Middleton family, Prince Harry and, of course, the Queen. (Sorry, Cressida Bonas, maybe next time!)
While Prince George’s christening outfit was decided centuries ago (he’s in a replica of the royal christening robe, the original of which is 172 years old) Kate’s christening dress is completely new. It’s a bespoke Alexander McQueen piece, which bares a striking resemblance to the ruffled Reiss dress she wore for her official engagement photos in 2010. Kate kept her hair straight with one side pinned up, the perfect style to match her cream-coloured hat by Jane Taylor and show off her Kiki McDonough citrine earrings. Read more »
Kate Middleton does have a royal baby bump—she just doesn’t want you to see it. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a surprise outing today (that is, they attended a public event that wasn’t part of their working royal duties) at the horse race festival at Cheltenham. Kate has actually attended the race almost every year in the past and other royals, like Zara Phillips and Princess Anne, were at Cheltenham earlier in the week.
But back to the baby bump. Lest you think that Kate Middleton is experiencing a magical pregnancy that keeps her looking trim at all times, the eagle-eyed readers of What Kate Wore were quick to notice that she’s altered her coat to allow for more room. Read more »
