Your first time at any international fashion week will teach you a valuable lesson: You need a fur. And not just any Margot Tenenbaum style granny hand-me-down. A fur so intricately patterned, multi-layered and artificially coloured, that it has to be designer. Given its place at the apex of the top Fall 2014 trends, you’d think recessionary times were long gone—it’s virtually everywhere, from a hyper colour mink at Altuzarra to a fluffy red dress at Prada. Wear it with caution or as Dior prescribes, dangle it over your arm like it’s no big d. Let the fur fly, scruples or otherwise.

Rihanna Style: From pop princess to fashion allstar

Rihanna Style

See Rihanna’s style from the beginning »

There’s never a dull moment when it comes to Rihanna’s style. Since breaking onto the scene in 2005, She has transformed from a Barbadian pop princess into the badgalriri that our Instagram feeds now know and love. After dipping a toe into designerdom with Hervé Leger mini dresses and traditional floor length gowns, Rihanna’s style took a turn for the daring upon the release of her 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad, when she ditched her long straight hair for an edgy pixie cut and her style choices followed suit.

But it was 2012 when Rihanna’s fashion choices really went into overdrive. The plunging neckline and thigh-high slit on her Armani dress paired with intricate body chains at the Grammy Awards was a taste of what was to come in the year. With help from her stylish Mel Ottenberg, the superstar favoured custom designer pieces from Kenzo, Adam Shelman and Alexander Wang for her performances on the sky-high spectacle that was her intense 777 tour, which was heavily accessorised with vintage Chanel, and Versace pieces. And without a doubt, one of our favourite Rihanna fashion moments of 2012 is when she shopped Cher Horowitz’s closet and wore a limited-edition rerun of the Calvin Klein Clueless dress. Read more »

Last night, Britain’s most fashionably influential took over the London Coliseum for the British Fashion Awards 2013. A red carpet of elite wearing elite can only be expected at such an affair, but Kate Moss and Gwyneth Paltrow’s looks got our style radar beeping.

The ageless Moss, who was honoured with the Special Recognition award for 25 years in the industry, wore a Spring 2014 Alexander McQueen leather dress with a fur coat. The perforated effect and pleats added texture to the look that was accessorized with a studded clutch, red pout and black Louboutin heels.

Making an appearance to present the International Designer of the Year honour to Miuccia Prada, it’s no surprise that Paltrow chose from the designer’s collection. The dress, a plum and soft pink bodice with a black pleated skirt, was paired with strappy sandals that added to her signature long legs. Side-parted pin straight hair and a rosy lip made for her low-key beauty look.

With the end of fashion week in Toronto marking the close of Spring 2014 show season, it’s time we looked back at all the trends that emerged. As much as the runway sets the pace for what’s to come for the top Spring 2014 trends, the streets play a major role as show-going trendsetters give us the relatable breakdown of how to wear what’s hot next season. Prints take two spots on our top Spring 2014 trends list through those with a painterly quality and those influenced by international cultures. As for fashionable time travel, prepare to keep reminiscing about the youthful 1990s, which haven’t ceased to get reincarnated season after season. Street Style, Paris: Ciara, Man Repeller and Miroslava Duma rock monochromatic goodies outside fashion week

Street Style Paris Fashion Week Spring 2014

As Paris Fashion Week comes inches towards a close for Spring 2014, Mother Nature has provided us with cloudy grey skies. The silver lining, however, is that that ominous shade serves as the perfect backdrop for trendsetters to flaunt their outfits du jour.

Yesterday, fashion week’s street style stars embraced two divergent colour palettes. Half of them have a penchant all things monochrome, interweaving delicate fabrics with bold, edgy prints and textures. Elena Perminova had legs for miles in a black Chanel bell dress that looked like a starry night sky in reverse. Hip hop star Ciara channeled the black and white look as well in a pretty lace get-up outside Valentino.
