What’s in your bag, Harley Viera-Newton? »

Last week, one of fashion’s coolest It girls took time out from spinning at Chanel, fronting a Gucci lookbook and collaborating with Dior Beauty to close Rudsak‘s 20th anniversary show during Toronto Fashion Week. A few hours before the show, we got to be ultimate creeps, rummaging inside her bag for daily go-tos. Amongst the items, we found the key to Viera-Newton’s signature look: long lasting beauty products. “Once I start DJing, I don’t really have time to touch up so whatever is on at the start has to stay on,” she said. Take note, working girls!

The eyes, hair and nails have been making most of the beauty statements so far on the Fall 2014 runways at New York Fashion Week. Here are our favourite looks and the top beauty trends so far:

Russet lipstick as eyeshadow at Helmut Lang
Helmut Lang’s textured, masculine collection was complemented with a simple, pared down face punctuated by a soft wash of lustrous burgundy on the eye. “It’s very minimal and clean but with a hint of punk,” said lead artist Hannah Murray, who painted Nars lipstick in “Deborah Audacious” (coming this fall) onto the eye and pressed “Heat” bronzing powder over it to set. She skipped eyeliner, mascara and brow colour, and kept the under-eye area clean to avoid a “pink-eye” effect. Read more »

What can I apply to dry patches of skin that my standard moisturizer isn’t treating effectively?
I’m sure you’re not alone in this boat, as the extreme temperatures we just endured were not kind! If dry patches have developed, it means there’s a significant depletion in your skin’s natural moisture barrier so supplement it with a moisturizer that’s sole purpose is to rehydrate and rebuild. Spectro Dry Skin Therapy Intense Rehydration Cream ($15, at drugstores) is a gentle yet highly effective cortisone-free water-based cream that works to hydrate the skin and soothe any dry patches that may have formed—and then it locks in moisture with glycerin. It’s fragrance-free and irritant-free, so well suited to all skin types, sensitive skin included. Read more »

Since the launch of her blog, Song of Style, back in 2008, Los Angeles-based blogger Aimee Song has become one of the blogosphere’s most beloved. With her penchant for bright colour combos, positivity and long flowing locks, she’s built an empire of page views, Instagram likes and Facebook fans. She’s turned all that into several collaborations with brands like Michael Kors, 7 for all Mankind and now Canadian eCommerce site, eLuxe. The 6-piece capsule collection ($45-$75, eluxe.ca) features logo T-shirts and distressed sweatshirts all emblazoned with “Do Epic Chic” and “VoiLÁ.” “I’m always about positive sayings,” she says. “I always feel like if you’re positive in the morning, you wake up saying ‘Oh my gosh, today is going to be a great day,’ then, everything is gonna be great! And I thought if I was going to do ‘chic’ then I’m going to make it epic, so why not, ‘Do Epic Chic’?”

While Song was in town last week (wearing the new Chanel chain link booties, we might add), we sifted through her Michael Kors bag and found plenty of the bloggers go-to items. They were all epically chic.
