Last week, Toronto’s fine jewellery aficionados headed to Yorkdale Shopping Centre for the opening of Canada’s first David Yurman boutique. It’s hard to believe the highly coveted brand waited this long to spoil diehards with a dedicated store, but hey, we’ll take it. Maple Leafs alt captain Joffrey Lupal lent his hotness and charitable connection to the night’s opening celebrations—a portion of the night’s sales went to the not-for-profit True Patriot Love, which aids current and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces as well as their families. The newly minted 1,800 square foot space features all of the classic Yurman pieces, including gold and silver for women, men’s, timepieces and limited edition collections.

Zara Home launches in Canada with stores in Toronto, Laval and online

Zara Home Canada

First e-commerce, now Zara Home. The ever-popular Spanish megabrand is certainly showing Canadians a lot of love as of late. Once the store we’d only ogle while on vacation in Europe, Zara’s home décor spinoff is now launching in North America with two Canadian locations. The first location, at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre will open on August 22 to coincide with an e-commerce launch on the same day at zarahome.com. The second, in Quebec’s Carrefour Laval, will open a week later on August 29.

As for what to expect, think on-trend designs and contemporary prices in line with Zara’s clothing and accessories. After skimming the international websites for a peek, we found cool blown-glass vases for $30 and luxe looking comforter covers for upwards of $80. To say we’re eagerly awaiting Canada’s latest and greatest international retail debut would be an understatement.

There’s no longer a need for Canadians to line up at the border for hours just so we can take advantage of the many great American outlet malls. This summer, Southern Ontario will have an outlet mall of its own, full of top tier brands and retailers: Toronto Premium Outlets—owned by Simon’s Premium Outlets, the company behind discount shopping destinations in Las Vegas, Palm Springs and Orlando—is set to open just outside of Toronto.

Anchored by a Hudson’s Bay outlet, Toronto Premium Outlets will include everything from fashion brands, like Michael Kors and J.Crew, to home furnishing stores, like Restoration Hardware. And we haven’t even gotten to the best part! The centre will have the first outlet stores in Canada for some cult favourites and top tier designer brands. Read more »

No Timberlake suit and tie will get in the way of a woman’s right to cardigans in every colour with the opening of a women’s only J.Crew in Pacific Centre today. The opening makes it the American retailer’s second Vancouver location and seventh in Canada. Bring on the J.Crew!

The more than 4,000-square-foot store on the mall’s lower level launches with the brand’s spring/summer collection. Touring the shop with Tom Mora, Head of Women’s Design, he points out the plethora of eye-catching prints—running the gamut from “Hawaiian sunset” to “punk floral”—and delicate details including embroidery and eyelet. The brand’s beloved cashmere pieces, cropped pants, costume jewellery, pencil skirts, schoolboy blazers and Italian leather shoes and bags are here too. We were chuffed to also find the Sperry Top-Sider for J.Crew boat shoe collaboration. Read more »

We’ve been chomping at the bit since news of Toronto’s first Miu Miu location was announced last year and have finally got our piece—the leather and accessories shop-in-shop has finally opened inside Holt Renfrew Bloor Street!

From these first photos, the Miu Miu shop fits in perfectly on Toronto’s Mink Mile. Its shimmering display cases, damask curtains and matte gold counters (not to mention enviable purse selection) are just a few reasons why. Designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi, the shop’s warm colour palette offsets the brand’s signature colour pops, all the while whetting our shop-till-you drop appetites. No word on the brand’s ready-to-wear collection making it into store, but we’re hoping this is one step closer.

Vaughan Mills announces expansion plans for 2013 including 50 new stores

Vaughan Mills Expansion 2013

Hot on the heels of Yorkdale Shopping Centre’s recent expansion, Vaughan Mills mall will reportedly undergo an $87-million redevelopment and expansion project later this year. The project is expected to add approximately 50 new retailers and 150,000 sq ft in floor area to accommodate them. This will result in a total of 250 stores and 1.1 million sq ft of shopping madness.

This is exciting news for the Vaughan Mills Mall, which continues to grow as a major shopping destination. Known for housing popular outlets such as Holt Renfrew Last Call and the Michael Kors Outlet, the mall has also recently added stores like Calvin Klein, J Crew Factory, and the UGG Australia Outlet. A list of the new stores that will come as a result of this expansion is not yet available, but further details will likely be announced in the spring or summer.
