With many celebrities dressed to the nines in metallic numbers on the red carpet, this week A-list stars needed no assistance from photographers’ flashing bulbs to shine. Bringing you oodles of wardrobe inspiration for those who have invitations to glam events this upcoming weekend, we round up our top 10 best-dressed celebs from this past week.

Net-A-Porter hosted an intimate dinner reception earlier this week in honour of Victoria Beckham to celebrate the launch of the Victoria, Victoria Beckham Fall 2014 collection and collab with contemporary art photographer Todd Hido. Hosted in New York City, some of fashion’s elite came to show their support for the designer, who looked ah-mazing in a form-fitting black dress from her Spring 2013 collection, including socialite Olivia Palermo, model and street style star Hanne Gaby Odiele, Tabitha Simmons and Garance Doré. For as long as we can remember (and by that we mean since approximately 2010), the ombre has been hot. Ascending the ranks of typical two-year hair trend cycles, the ombre has proved perennial: it just keeps coming back. And although we can’t exactly pinpoint when and how the trend came to be (one too many missed trips to the hair salon could be a possibility), there is no doubt that many celebs have caught the ombre bug, including two of its earliest adopters, Jessica Alba and Nicole Richie.

The classic ombre (think Sarah Jessica Parker) shows no signs of departing, but an edgy dark versus light a la Demi Lovato has become more and more popular in recent years. If standing out from the pack is your thing, Brit It girl, Poppy Delevingne works a reverse take on it that may be one of the best celebrity ombre hair looks we’ve seen. And then there is Kylie Jenner whose hairstyles may not be considered ombre per se, but the dip dye-like effect is definitely one chic version we know many fans will follow suit this season. Still think ombre hair is so last year? From Olivia Wilde to Jared Leto, we track down 15 of the best celebrity ombre hair looks that prove the gradient is so not over. Read more »

If reports about Anna Wintour wanting this year’s Met Gala to be more exclusive were true, they certainly did not apply to the A-list. Last night’s red carpet was stacked (and we mean stacked) with just about everyone from the recluse to rising star. Surely, it had something to do with the fact that last night was the inaugural Met Gala celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s renamed Anna Wintour Costume Center. Maybe too, it was just like the rest of us have been trained to understand: The Met Gala is not to be missed.

Honouring oft-forgotten American couturier Charles James, last night’s event was all about 1950s glamour. Its “white tie” guest-list prompted gents like Johnny Depp and Kanye West to wear tails, Zoe Saldana to wear a recreated Michael Kors bustle and both Taylor Swift and Sarah Jessica Parker to take to the stairs with over-the-top Oscar de la Renta trains. Unlike the sometimes cookie cutter Oscars, the Met Gala is a time to break out some real steez and red carpet queen Lupita Nyong’o did just that in a flapper-inspired feathered Prada dress. Perhaps more Poiret than James, the dress made for some serious chatter from both the “for” and “against” camps. Fellow red carpet queen (and queen of life, truly) Rihanna went anti-theme in a sexy stomach-baring Stella McCartney dress which killed, as usual.

With so many parties, galas and movie screenings this past week, celebrities everywhere were dressed to the nines in spring attire, giving us plenty of fashion eye candy and outfit inspiration to last the weekend.

Earlier this week, the Time 100 Gala was held in New York City and celebrated the 100 most influential people—and some of the most stylish, we might add. Although Beyoncé was not in attendance (insert sad face emoji), red carpet beauties like Carrie Underwood and Christy Turlington stunned us with their sartorial choices. Also there to accept an honourable mention was Amy Adams, who did no wrong in the fashion department, wearing a sleeveless column dress with copper embroidery, which complemented her iconic red hair. From Shanghai’s grand opening of the new Burberry store to New York’s film festival-filled weekend, there was a lot of competition to make it on our best dressed list. The Tribeca Film Festival officially wrapped up and celebrities ended things with a bang in the fashion department. While stars like Nikki Reed, Elisabeth Moss and Eva Longoria opted to wear dark shades, Keira Knightley pulled out not one but two pastel couture dresses. (Right on trend, Keira!) Sporting the same corseted silhouette from the Chanel Fall 2014 show, Knightley walked the red carpet in a shimmering sequined dress and switched into a simpler standout baby-pink dress for the dinner hosted by the Paris fashion house. While the days of Carrie Bradshaw may be in the past, but Sarah Jessica Parker is still turning heads with every red carpet appearance she makes.

The Sex and the City star may have outshone the A-listers at the premiere of Sam Mendes’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical in London on Tuesday. Joined by a dapper husband Matthew Broderick and their ten-year-old son James, the stylish Parker-Broderick family was all smiles on the red carpet. Possibly inspired by the famous golden tickets, Parker was decked out in a glittery Marc Jacobs number from the designer’s Resort 2014 collection. The black and gold striped sequined dress showed off her famously petite frame, and was paired with a simple black and gold plated bracelet. SJP finished off her look with a pair of classic black heels by Manolo Blahnik and a colour-block Fendi Baguette bag.

Sarah Jessica Parker is designing a collection for Manolo Blahnik

Sarah Jessica Parker Manolo Blahnik Collection

Carrie Bradshaw’s ultimate dream may finally come true.

Fifteen years after she graced our television screens as the beloved sex columnist in Sex and the City, real life Bradshaw Sarah Jessica Parker is officially launching her first footwear collection for Manolo Blahnik.

It should come as no surprise, given Parker’s inextricable link to shoes. “In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw,” Parker once told Vogue. “Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes, and by default I learned an enormous amount.”

According to British Vogue, Parker looked to “great old-school labels like Charles Jourdan and Maud Frizon” as inspiration for her collection. Bringing her own flair to the design table, she will be offering “something different” that will reflect her personal taste. She expresses, “We’re putting new colours together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet. And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the Seventies into the Eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag.” And the best part? Her whole collection might not put a huge dent in your bank account. The SJP collection will feature elegant pumps and flats that will range from $200 to $300, with bags around $700.

Produced in Europe and New York City, the SJP collection will arrive in the U.S. early next year, exclusively sold through Nordstrom.
