Fashion news: The Alber-to-replace-Lagerfeld rumour pops up again, a Karl salad, Peter Nygård drops suit against the CBC and more

Photography by Peter Stigter

Since street style photog Tommy Ton tweeted “I received some news tonight that is going to SHAKE the fashion world in the next two days. CRAZY!!!!” during Paris Fashion week, we have been going crazy awaiting the news. Word on the street is that Karl Lagerfeld’s turn at Chanel is coming to an end, and that he will be passing the baton to Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. We’ve heard this before, so take this rumour with a big grain of salt. [Grazia AU]

In other Lagerfeld news, he will have an Alaskan king crab salad named after him at Paris’ La Giola restaurant. [WWD]

Madonna’s new fashion brand status opens up the world of collaboration (and world domination at this point). After signing a deal last week that will enable the material girl’s brand, MG Icon, to have hands in multiple existing brands as well as to start new ones, news comes today of the first partnership between Madonna and Dolce & Gabbana–sunglasses.   [The Cut] Read the rest of this entry »

Coco Rocha is engaged to her boyfriend, interior designer James Conran. Congrats you two! [Oh So Coco]

Natalia Vodianova appeared as a fairy in yesterday’s closing ceremonies, part of the Russian presentation for the Sochi 2014 games. The presentation also included performers in bouncy glowing orbs.

Christian Lacroix (the label–the man himself cut ties with the brand) is teaming up with various labels to launch four new product categories in hopes to get their profits back on track. Expect to see eyewear, stationary, wood panels and home textiles over the course of the year and into early 2011. [Vogue UK] Read the rest of this entry »

Fashion news: SJP is Halston’s new prez, Kate Moss probably engaged, and we want to take a nail cruise

sjp01It’s official: Sarah Jessica Parker has been named president and chief creative officer at Halston. It’s too early to judge, but Parker seems to have her head on straight with the position. She’s not interested in undermining creative director Marios Schwab, and is frank about her newbie status: “There is a huge amount I don’t know and I am very candid about that, and I am excited to learn.” [WWD]

Shots from V’s upcoming and already over-hyped “plus-size issue” are out. Terry Richardson’s “One Size Fits All” features side-by-side shots of Jacquelyn Jablonski and a not-really-plus-sized Crystal Renn in the same pose in the same outfit. It’s worth noting that Renn out-vogues Jablonski at every turn. [Models.com, via Fashionista]

Fashion stylist is apparently the when-I-grow-up job of the aughts. Except for celebrity stylist, which according to 10 editor Sophia Neophitou is “something you just don’t want to become.” Take that, Zoe-ophytes. [Times UK] Read the rest of this entry »

The British Fashion Awards were held in London last night. Christopher Bailey and Burberry were honoured twice: Bailey for British Designer of the Year and his label for Best Designer Brand. During his speech, Bailey announced that he would be showing the Prorsum collection in London again for the fall shows in February. While we were crossing our fingers for the Canadian talent on the nominees list–Mark Fast for emerging ready-to-wear talent and Todd Lynn for Best Menswear Designer–those awards went to Peter Pilotto and Kim Jones for Dunhill, respectively. (Don’t feel too bad for Fast–dressing Julia Restoin-Roitfeld on the red carpet was a win of another kind.) Read the rest of this entry »

Kate Moss caused a commotion last night at GQ’s Man of the Year Awards. The model’s attempt to escape out the back entrance backfired when she ran through an interview backstage with rapper Dizzee Rascal. Apparently host James Nesbitt made a jab at Moss about her nude GQ cover, causing her to leave all huffy. [Telegraph] Read the rest of this entry »
