Would you buy Opening Ceremony’s phone-charging jacket?

In the brave new world of wearable technology, Opening Ceremony designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have established themselves as being ahead of the cool kid curve. Earlier this year, the two announced a collaboration between Intel and their other label, Kenzo, and now they’ve come out with fashion’s first piece de tech resistance: the phone-charging jacket. The jacket, OC’s signature unisex varsity style with branded patch and gold leather sleeves, features a Mophie-powered pocket, which automatically charges your phone as you wear it. Sounds pretty cool, right? But would you fork out $465 for something you can recreate yourself, with the style and charging pack of your choosing? Yeah, maybe, and for the same reason you’re drawn to fashion fashion designer collaborations. Because they’re new, different, and so what if they’re only shiny and new for a few months?

Given fashion’s need to feel ahead of the curve (the troupe of top editors at this year’s Apple Watch launch included the likes of Olivier Zahm and Alexandra Shulman for example), we’ve got high hopes for the limited-edition jacket, of which only 100 have been made. But what say you?
