“Less is more,” must have been the mantra behind yesterday’s Helder Diego show, a 25-look World MasterCard Fashion Week debut from one of Toronto’s up and coming labels.

Designers Helder Aguiar and Diego Fuchs blended their sharp-edged aesthetic with sheer paneling and angular layers to create a whole new look for Fall 2015. Launched in 2010 and formerly known as Blak.I, the label has been a labour of love for the designers, who still create the collections from home. This season, it seemed, they were ready for the next step.

For their first solo show (the duo competed on the Mercedes Benz Start Up runway last season), models walked to an eerie version of Hunger Games anthem “Beneath the Hanging Tree,” while donning pleated halter gowns, armour-like coats and structured capes worthy of Katniss herself.

From the subtle hints of snakeskin to the powerful punch of colour, this short but sweet debut proved this team is one to watch.
